Kyra Sedgwick Honored for Unforgettable Turn in The Best You Can

Following the world premiere of The Best You Can at the Tribeca Festival, Kyra Sedgwick received the prestigious Spotlight Initiative Award from The Creative Coalition, presented during an intimate candlelit dinner at Chef Marc Forgione’s acclaimed Tribeca restaurant. The celebration drew an exclusive mix of Hollywood insiders including co-star Kevin Bacon, rising talent Brittany O’Grady, and director Michael J. Weithorn, as well as prominent changemakers to honor Sedgwick’s standout performance. In addition to honoring the film’s complex characters, it’s also to honor  the quiet heroism of caregivers, those who love through hardship without fanfare. “This Award is more than a trophy, it’s a torch that signals to the industry and the world that art has power, independent film can lead, and advocacy belongs in the spotlight,” said The Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk.

In The Best You Can, Sedgwick plays Cynthia Rand, a buttoned-up New York City urologist who’d neatly ordered world is upended when her much older husband (Judd Hirsch), a prominent Watergate prosecutor, begins to slip into dementia. Her life takes an unexpected turn when a robbery is thwarted by Stan (Kevin Bacon), a directionless security guard hoping to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Brittany O’Grady). What begins as a chance encounter evolves into a candid, irreverent, and ultimately transformative friendship that challenges both Cynthia and Stan to reconsider what they truly need and what they may have been missing all along.

“I am very proud of this independent film, which shines a light on the incredible work caregivers do every day, and to showcase that with both humor and heart in this film is a real joy,” said Sedgwick. Director Michael J. Weithorn echoed that sentiment, crediting Sedgwick with delivering a performance that balances strength and vulnerability in equal measure. With its blend of sharp comedy, emotional honesty, and richly drawn characters, The Best You Can is a poignant reminder that meaningful connection often comes from the most unexpected places.
