Little White Lies presents: BIG NIGHT
Dir. Campbell Scott, Stanley Tucci, United States, 1996
Screen 1 at 15:00

This culinary classic stars Stanley Tucci and Campbell Scott as two brothers from Italy opening their dream restaurant in the 1950s Jersey Shore. Hailed as “one of the great food movies and yet so much more” by critic Roger Ebert, BIG NIGHT is an ode to curious palettes and the joy of discovering new cuisines.

THE LUNCHBOX
Dir. Ritesh Batra, India, France, 2013
Screen 2 at 15:20

A gem of contemporary Indian cinema, this film is a dazzling tale of chance, romance, and the extraordinary way food can connect human beings. When a mistaken lunchbox delivery in Mumbai connects a neglected housewife to a lonely man on the verge of retirement, these two souls find comfort in their unexpected friendship.

FIRST COW
Dir. Kelly Reichardt, USA, 2020
Screen 3 at 15:15

An inimitable voice of American cinema, Kelly Reichardt (The Mastermind), redefines the notion of what a western can be. Set in the 1820s among outcasts on the edge of capitalism’s grasp, a taciturn loner and skilled cook travels west to Oregon Territory, where he meets a Chinese immigrant also seeking his fortune. Soon the two team up on a dangerous scheme to steal milk from the wealthy landowner’s prized Jersey cow – the first, and only, in the territory.

MUBI Podcast presents: PHANTOM THREAD
Dir. Paul Thomas Anderson, United States, 2017
Screen 1 at 18:00

Welcome to the world of renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis), and the glamour of 1950s post-war London. Where a meal is never just a meal, but a cinematic tool used to express love, assert power, and ultimately expose the uniquely dependent relationship between him and his muse and lover Alma (Vicky Krieps). Nominated for six Oscars®, PHANTOM THREAD co-stars an on-form Lesley Manville and is a resplendent feast for the sense from Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another).

BABETTE’S FEAST
Dir. Gabriel Axel, Denmark, 1987
Screen 2 at 18:15

Denmark, 1871. Having fled France, cook Babette Hersant arrives in Denmark and soon becomes a housekeeper for two unmarried sisters. But when Babette wins the lottery, she decides to treat them to the feast of a lifetime. Winner of the Oscar® for Best Foreign Film, BABETTE’S FEAST is a mouthwatering marriage between gastronomy and cinema.

Notebook Presents: THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE & HER LOVER
Dir. Peter Greenaway, UK, France, 1989
Screen 1 at 21:15

This cult classic from Peter Greenaway, one of modern cinema’s great provocateurs, takes the austere British drama and injects it with live-wire kink. Set almost entirely in a French restaurant, this bold, controversial film follows the exploits of a ruthless British gangster whose long-suffering wife forges a relationship with one of the restaurant’s patrons behind his back.

RAW
Dir. Julia Ducournau, France, Belgium, 2016
Screen 2 at 21:20

Everyone in Justine’s family is a vet. And a vegetarian. At 16, she’s a brilliant and promising student. When she starts at veterinary school, she enters a decadent, merciless and dangerously seductive world. The audacious debut feature from Julia Ducourneau, Palme d’or-winning director of TITANE and ALPHA, invites us to witness the blood-thirsty coming-of-age horror you didn’t know you needed.
